Scotland's Marine Atlas wins international digital book awards

APS Group Scotland is celebrating following a prestigious win at the Digital Book Awards 2014 in the Ebook Flowable Academic category which recognises the company's work in producing 'Scotland's Marine Atlas'. The awards acknowledge excellence in digital publishing during the past twelve months with Penguin, Harper Collins and Yale University Press all counted as finalists across its various categories.

'Scotland's Marine Atlas', published on behalf of Marine Scotland, a directorate of the Scottish Government, is the first full-colour marine atlas about Scotland's seas ever produced and forms part of a wider design, print and -publishing service that APS provides to the Scottish Government. This project is designed to move publishing of its documents to e-books for the major tablet and e-reading devices. This in turn aims to help to spread messages more efficiently; improve accessibility and to better engage with younger, more digitally-literate audiences.

The awards gala took place on January 14 at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in New York City at the Digital Book Awards, as part of the fifth Annual Digital Book World Conference Expo. Hosted by actor and content director of Reading Rainbow LeVar Burton, the ceremony was attended by Allan Doyle, managing director and Jim Meiklejohn, operations director at APS Group Scotland. The award is the second accolade that 'Scotland's Marine Atlas' has achieved following a Gold CIPR PRide award in the UK in October 2013.
